WHERE ARE WE ?

Kyogle is situated a pleasant ninety minutes drive west of The most Easterly Point of Land in Australia, Byron Bay. Travelling south from Brisbane via Murwillumbah takes three hours by car and over an hour by train. Driving, you will pass Mt Warning, the core of an extinct volcano and pass through lush rainforest and scenic views. Kyogle’s theme is The Gateway To The Rainforest.

Kyogle is the kind of town you live in when you want the local shopkeeper to call you by your first name. When you’re not in a hurry to shop because you will meet all your friends. The community, though small (population around 3500), thrives with small industries, art and enthusiasm.

Kyogle is not the place to look for fast glitzy restaurants or night-clubs, traffic congestion, pollution or keeping up with the Jones's. Relax and enjoy healthy locally grown foods served in excellent eateries, incredible scenery and the friendly locals.

A visitor arriving in Kyogle would find two hotels with live entertainment and accommodation, two fuel stations, a supermarket, variety stores, public swimming pool, two golf courses, a motel, caravan park, conference centre, bed and breakfasts, an art gallery, thriving drama productions, churches, a Buddhist gonpa, herbalist and masseuses and much, much more.

Travel a kilometre on any of Kyogle’s main roads and you enter farmland. Travel a few more and there are heritage-listed rainforests and amazing hiking trails.

This area is in the care of the Bundjalung People.  They maintain a close relationship with their heritage and are implementing plantings of native food and medicine plants and trees and cleaning sites of importance.

There is another side to Kyogle. The musicians, the artists; painters, potters, sculptors, weavers and spinners. There are the region's thriving craft markets, the anti-logging protestors, the people who chose to live on communities, living lightly on the land. Many people choose to spend their time creatively, caring for the environment, improving the welfare of the community and creating recreational opportunities.
